Create Assignment

You can assign Requirements, Test Cases, Test Runs and Defects to one or multiple users. There are different ways to create assignments for users in qTest. To create assignment of an object type, such as Requirements, Test Cases, Test Runs, or Defects, you need Edit Assignment permission of that object in a project.

1. Create assignment in the Root page of objects, such as Requirements, Test Design, Test Execution

  • Go to object's menu you want to create assignment, such as Requirements, Test Design, Test Execution
  • Select Root page to see the Assignments board.
  • Select a user from the user drop-down list. The selected user will be added in the Assignee section
  • Under an assignee, select Task type and Title corresponding to tasks.
    The Task type will be changed upon objects, such as Module, Requirements, Test Cases, Test Runs, etc.
  • Click Save to finish creating assignment.
    Assignment will be correspondingly updated in individual objects.

2. Create assignment in individual object's Properties

  • Go to an individual object, such as Requirements, Test Cases, Test Suite, or Test Runs
  • In the object's Properties, click Assigned To drop-down list to select a user.

  • Click Save. The assignee(s) will be updated into the object's Assignment board.

3. Create assignment using Batch Edit in object's Data Query

  • Create a Data Query for the object you want to assign. Refer to Data Query.
  • Select queried objects and click Batch Edit
  • Check Assigned To box and select a user from the drop-down list
  • Click Confirm to finish batch updating assignment

Remove/Edit Assignment

You can change or remove existing assignees.

1. Remove or update assignees in the Root page of objects, such as Requirements, Test Design, Test Execution

  • Go to object's menu you want to create assignment, such as Requirements, Test Design, Test Execution
  • Select Root page to see the Assignments board.
  • In the Assignee section, click Delete icon on the tasks or assignees you want to remove
  • Alternatively, you can add new assignees and switch tasks to them.
  • Click Save to finish editing assignment board.
    Assignment will be correspondingly updated in individual objects.

2. Remove or update assignees in individual object's Properties

  • Go to an individual object, such as Requirements, Test Cases, Test Suite, or Test Runs
  • In the object's Properties, click Assigned To drop-down list to uncheck existing user or change to other users.
    Button-Info-icon.pngIf the existing assignee is removed from the project's User list, there is an Warning "!" icon next to Assigned To drop box, and you have to select a new user.
  • Click Save. The assignee(s) will be updated into the object's Assignment board.

3. Remove or update assignees using Batch Edit in object's Data Query

  • Create a Data Query for the object you want to remove or change assignee. Refer to Data Query.
  • Select queried objects and click Batch Edit
  • Check Assigned To box and select other users or clear users from the drop-down list
  • Click Confirm to finish batch updating assignment
