7.4 Defect Reports

You can use the following reports to do statistics for Defect. They are grouped under category Defect Reports on the left menu.

Defect Analysis

This dynamic report enables you to analyze defects filtered by a vast variety of criteria over different time ranges, such as Statuses, Priority, Severity etc… I.e. you can choose your desired-to-view reported data from the most recent 7 days, from the last 30 days, from the very beginning of your projects or in a very specific time frame. Furthermore, the report graph also offers the ability to drill down data from Year to Quarter, form Quarter to Month and even to a particular date which belongs to the reported period.

Follow these steps to view this report:

  1. Select Defect Analysis Report from the menu on the left hand side.
  2. Select the filters in Report Settings section.
  3. Click on Show button to view the report.

There are four parts in the report:

A. Report Settings

This area allows you to specifically define your needs of reporting by using the combination of three criteria: Date range, Field and Value.

Date Range: depending on your selection, the report graph will display data as follow:

  • Last 7 days: Show data for the last 7 days, graph will show defects per day.
  • Last 30 days: Show data for the last 30 days, graph will show Defects per week.
  • Project to date: Show data from the very beginning of your project to the current point of time, graph will show the corresponding defects time frame depending on how long your project has gone.
  • From…To: You can select a specific time frame to show data. Data unit will be showed as the rules below:
    • If the selected duration is less than seven days, the report will display daily statistics.
    • If the selected duration is more than seven days and less than or equal to one month, the report will display weekly statistics.
    • If the selected duration is more than one month and less than or equal to five months, the report will display monthly statistics.
    • If the selected duration is more than five months and less than or equal to 12 months, the report will display quarterly statistics.
    • If the duration is more than twelve months, the report will display annual statistics.

Field: allows you to select one of a list of qTest Defect’s fields for data filtering, including Status, Priority, Severity, Assigned To, Submitter and Module.

Value: once a field has been selected, you can select its corresponding values from the drop-down list to finish specifying your filter criteria in the Report Settings area.

B. Latest Information

The latest Information area shows the current quantity and percentage of defects, grouped by the fields selected from the Report Settings area. This highlighted information gives you a quick view of all Defects in the system.

C. Charts and Legends area

After specifying your data filter criteria, you can click on Show button to view your Defect data reported in form of a Columns chart. Below the chart, there are legends displayed based on the fields and values that previously selected in the Project Setting area.

D. Data grid

In addition, this report provides a data grid which allows you to examine the reported data up to the date level. This table is automatically refreshed to reflect the state of the Column charts (I.e. data grid will display weekly statistics if the Column chart displays weekly statistics).

The statistics figures of a specific date displayed on the graph is the snapshot of Defects’ states at the end of that date.

On the row that displays the dates being reported, you can click on each date cell to view details of the Defects of the selected date.

The number of defects belongs to each reported date is also clickable. Upon clicking, you can view details of the corresponding Defects in a specific date as selected.

You can export the grid to Excel file for further reporting purpose. It can exported to different formats such as XLS, PDF, CVS. Click on Download button to download the report.

Defect Analysis (Snapshot View)

They report the activities recorded in a day, a week, a month, a quarter or a year instead of continuously aggregated numbers. It enables you to analyze defects filtered by a vast variety of criteria over different time ranges, such as Statuses, Priority, Severity etc… I.e. you can choose your desired-to-view reported data from the most recent 7 days, from the last 30 days, from the very beginning of your projects or in a very specific time frame. It helps answer some questions such as: which defects have been changed to specific statuses within each day in the last 7 days,...

Follow these steps to view this report:

  1. Select Defect Analysis (Snapshot View) Report from the menu on the left hand side.
  2. Select the filters in Report Settings section.
  3. Click on Show button to view the report.

A. Report Settings

B. Latest Information

The latest Information area shows the current quantity and percentage of defects, grouped by the fields selected from the Report Settings area. This highlighted information gives you a quick view of all Defects in the system.

C. Charts and Legends area

After specifying your data filter criteria, you can click on Show button to view your Defect data reported in form of a Columns chart. Below the chart, there are legends displayed based on the fields and values that previously selected in the Project Settings area.

D. Data grid

Fixed Defect Verification

This report helps you verify the actual status of test runs that associated with fixed and resolved defects. System will show associated test run with latest execution result for verification. Since qTest allows you to use your custom status values, you need to define the statuses that indicate a defect has been fixed/resolved.

Follow these steps to view this report:

  1. Select Fixed Defect Verification Report from the menu on the left hand side.
  2. Select a Release from the drop downlist. Option All includes all the Releases from the list. Option Unspecified can be used to query for the Defects without Affected Release.
  3. Select one or more Statuses that indicate a Defect has been fixed/resolved.
  4. Click on Show button to view the report.

The report is displayed in 2 parts:

A. Latest Information

It shows the number of fixed Defects and the detailed number of Defects by each selected status in the selected Release.

B. Data grid

The grid contains detailed data of resolved and closed Defects with corresponding Test Run’s results.

Defect Creation & Resolution Accumulation

This report shows the trend of how Defects are created and how they are resolved. You are able to define which statuses represent defect creation and which ones represent Defect resolution. The report can be filtered by various fields and values over different time ranges.

Follow these steps to view this report:

  1. Select Defect Creation & Resolution Accumulation Report from the menu on the left hand side.
  2. Select the filters in Report Settings section.
  3. After specifying the filters, click on Show button to view the report.

There are four parts in the report:

A. Report Settings

Since qTest allows you to use your custom Status values for Defects, you first need to define which ones to represent Defect Creation and which ones for Defect Resolution.

Then you can specifically define your needs of reporting by using the combination of three criteria: Date range, Field and Value.

Date Range: depending on your selection, the report graph will display data as follow:

  • Last 7 days: Show data for the last 7 days, graph will show defects per day.
  • Last 30 days: Show data for the last 30 days, graph will show Defects per week.
  • Project to date: Show data from the very beginning of your project to the current point of time, graph will show the corresponding defects time frame depending on how long your project has gone.

B. Latest Information

This sections gives you a summarized statistics of created and resolved defects in the selected time range.

C. Charts and Legends area

The chart graphically represents the number of Defects which have been created and resolved in each time unit during the selected time frame.

The statistics figures of a specific period displayed on the graph is the snapshot of defects’ states at the end of it.

D. Data grid

The report provides you with two data grids that allow you to examine the reported data up to the date level.

The summarized grid shows the number of Defects, being grouped by their statuses, in each time period. Those are the selected statuses which indicate Defect Creation or Resolution.

The number of Defects belongs to each reported period is also clickable. Upon clicking, you can view details of the corresponding Defects in the specific period as selected.

On the row that displays the periods being reported, you can click on each cell to view details of the Defects of the selected period.

Defect Summary

This report provides the Defect details at the report run time. The report can be filtered by the Defect's submitted date and other properties.

Follow these steps to view this report:

  1. Select Defect Summary Report from the menu on the left hand side.
  2. Select the filters in Report Settings section.
  3. Click on Show button to view the report.

There are four parts in the report:

A. Report Settings

This area allows you to specifically define your needs of reporting by using the combination of the following default criteria:

  • Defect Submitted in: to filter the time frame in which the defects were submitted.
  • Filter by Field and Value: you are allowed to filter the report by different fields of Defects and their values such as Staus, Priority, Severity, Assigned To, and Module.
  • Affected Release/Build: in which Release/Build the Defects were found.
  • Fixed Release/Build: in which Release/Build the Defects were actually fixed.
  • Target Release/Build: in which Release/Build the Defects should be fixed.

  • If the fields' display names are changed in Field Settings, corresponding fields should be renamed accordingly in the report filter and the data table.
  • If the fields are deactivated, they should be hidden in the report filter and the data table.

B. Latest Information

It shows the current number of Defects and the detailed number of Defects grouped by the latest status according to the Report Settings.

C. Chart and Legends area

The chart shows the trend of how Defects were submitted and changed the Status within the selected time frame.

D. Data Grid

In addition to the Chart, the report provides a detailed table of each Defect that meets your selected filter.

You can export the grid to Excel file for further reporting purpose. It can exported to different formats such as XLS, PDF, CVS. Click on Download button to download the report.
