Create, Edit and Archive Parameters

Accessing qTest Parameters

qTest Manager features a Parameters to manage testing data for test case steps.  You can now include parameters in Test Cases and define parameter values to create Test Runs.

To access to the new module, select Parameters from the 9-box icon in the top-right corner of the qTest header.


The default Parameters page is displayed.  This page provides a list of parameters which belong to all qTest Manager projects you can access. Each row of the grid is a parameter with an identifier, status, description, and its last modified date and time. 

Each row of the grid is a parameter with an identifier, a description, whether the parameter is being used in any dataset or in qTest Manager test case(s), a list of parameter values, its created and last modified date.

NOTE: When a parameter is used in a qTest Manager Test Case, it is counted as "used".  When a parameter is defined in a dataset, it is also counted as "used".


Filtering and Sorting

Filtering parameters

You can filter parameters by:

  • Projects: filter parameters that are associated with one or multiple projects, if no project is selected, parameters of any project will be returned
  • Status: filter parameters that have status Active, Inactive or Archived. If no status is selected, parameters of any status will be returned
  • Identifier: parameters that have identifier containing the keyword you enter to Identifier field will be returned
  • Status: filter parameters having status Active, Inactive or Archived
  • Created Date: filter parameters created in a specific date
  • Updated Date: filter parameters that was updated in a specific date


Sorting parameters

By default, parameters are sorted by last created date.

To sort parameters, click on a column in the parameter list to toggle sorting by ascending or descending. 


Create a New Parameter

To create a new parameter, click on `+ CREATE` button.


The create parameter window displays for you to create a new parameter:

  • Identifier: unique identifier of the new parameter
  • Status: by default parameter status is Active
  • Description: enter description for the new parameter


To add values to parameter, click on `+ VALUE` button, a popup dialog will be shown for you to enter parameter values. Each parameter value take one line so you can press Enter key to create as much values as you want.


When you are done adding values, click OK. The values will be populated in the Values list as below screenshot.


To assign parameter to your qTest Manager project(s), click on Projects tab. By default, a new parameter is assigned to all projects that you are a member of.

Note: a parameter must be assigned to at least one qTest Manager project, otherwise, it cannot be created.


To modify projects that parameters is assigned to, click on `+ PROJECT` button. From there you can deselect unwanted project(s) that you do not want the parameter to be assigned to, then click OK to commit the change.


You are done inputing sufficient parameter information, now you can click SAVE button to create new parameter.


You newly created parameter will be shown in the Parameter grid.



View and Update an existing Parameter

Click on a parameter's identifier from the grid to open parameter detail dialog.

You can view and update parameter information, such as Identifier, Status, and Description.  The @ symbol indicates how to define the parameter in qTest Manager.


View and Update parameter value

Values tab is where you can view and sort parameter values.

You can click on a parameter value to edit or click on X button to remove it.


View and Update parameter's associated projects

Click on Projects tab to view projects that the parameter is currently assigned to. To change the assigned projects, click on `+ PROJECT` button then select or deselect project(s) that you want to assign or deassign parameter to it.

Note: a parameter must be assigned to at least one project.




View Test Cases Tab

From the Test Case Tab, you can click on either the Test case ID or the Test Case Name link to open the test case in qTest Manager. 


View Dataset Tab

From the Datasets tab, you can click the Dataset Name to open the Dataset detail page in a new browser tab.


Archive Parameter

To archive a parameter in the Parameters home page, click on the action icon of that parameter and select Archive from popup menu


You can also archive parameter by clicking on ARCHIVE button in parameter detail dialog.
