Connect to defect tracking systems, download its configuration (required fields, optional fields, default values in fields...) and have user configure it from qTrace. This configuration is saved for subseqeuence submission of issue

I couldn't submit bugs to our defect tracking system (JIRA) directly. The issue was qtrace couldn't identify couple of workflows we had added in our system before you could actually reach the defect logging screen and also it couldn't add custom fields that were mandatory. To add the custom fields, I had looked-up the field name using firebug. Hope this helps in figuring out a solution. Thanks
Can you please let us know which version of JIRA you are using? If fields are mandatory, qTrace will query and display them for users to pick or enter values to these fields before submitting.
Hi Du,
I was busy participating in a conference sponsored by QAsymphony :) I do not have the JIRA version handy but I can share with you couple of workflows:
- Before logging a bug, when you click on create issue from JIRA, you will have to select an option from a dropdown as to whether it is a bug or enhancement.
- When Qtrace tries to log, it skips this option and fetches a generic defect logging form.
I hope this is useful.
Hi Sundaresan,
I hope you find the conference enjoyable, useful and you got a free annual qTrace license from the conference :).
JIRA has several different issue types (Bug, Task, New Feature, Improvement...). Each issue type has different set of fields to be submitted. Given that qTrace is designed to submit bugs, it currently supports submitting bugs only when it is integrated with Jira. So Bug issue type is filled in automatically when users submit a bug from qTrace.
If we have enough user's requests for qTrace being able to submit other issue types to Jira, we will consider incorporating them to our release plan. It is also why we created this forum.
Hi Du Nguyen,
Apologies for the delayed response. Yes, I did get the free annual license.
As of now, I export Qtrace's file to PDF and upload it to JIRA. I believe the issue is with the API integration with JIRA (unless you use some other method). Probably testing with latest JIRA version should help.
Hello Sundaresan,
Actually we did not implement the capability to submit other types of issue but "Bug" to JIRA and we are going to deliver this capability in the next release. What version of JIRA are you using? We are integrating qTrace with latest version of JIRA and it may be available in the release too.
Would love to see integration with www.Xqual.com XStudio ALM for both bug tracking as well as for test case steps recording.
Thanks,
